Since 1881, The Northern has attracted some of the greatest names in the game. Whether you’re here to practice, play or compete, you will find The Northern a welcoming club with strong links to the local community.
The Northern offers tennis coaching programmes for all ages. Our coaches have a vast wealth of playing and coaching experience and are always available to answer any questions you may have.
Play
Social tennis and access to the courts is included in the full membership. Play with friends or connect with others of the same ability. We also host a number of box leagues for you to test your skills.
Teams
The Northern hosts the Manchester trophy and a number of tournaments throughout the season. We are also proud to partner with the University of Manchester Tennis team who have full access to our facilities.
Outdoor facilities
Tournament level courts
At the Northern, we have 18 outdoor tennis courts, comprising of 6 grass courts, 3 clay courts and 9 synthetic clay courts. In a typical season, outdoor play commences on the grass courts around May and finishes around the second week of September.
Indoor facilities
Stay at your peak all year round
With three full-size indoor courts, you can keep training and playing all year round. Access to indoor courts is included with full membership with an additional booking fee of £7 per hour during Off-Peak hours and £9 per hour during Peak hours.

The Northern is proud to be part of the prestigious Centenary Tennis Clubs (CTC) network, a collective of historic and renowned tennis clubs across the world. As a CTC member, The Northern provides its members with the unique opportunity to visit and play at other participating clubs free of charge*, enjoying their facilities as a member would.
To arrange a visit to one of our partner clubs, members must first seek approval from Northern management. Access is subject to availability and certain restrictions may apply depending on the club.
