Duty Manager

Full Time | 40 Hours Per Week | Permanent

Salary: £29,120 per annum + Benefits

The Role

The Northern Lawn Tennis Club is seeking an enthusiastic, professional and highly organised Duty Manager to oversee evening operations and play a key role in the day-to-day running of the Club.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment and enjoys balancing operational responsibility with member engagement. The successful candidate will provide a visible management presence throughout the Club during peak evening hours, ensuring high standards of service, safety and professionalism across all departments.

The role offers excellent exposure across club operations, hospitality, events, facilities management and leadership development within a thriving private members club environment.

Working Hours

Tuesday to Saturday

3:15pm – 11:15pm

(40 hours per week)

Please note: initial training will take place over a 1–2 month period with varying shifts, including daytime, evening and weekend hours, to support a full understanding of club operations.

Assistant Grounds Person

Full Time | 40 Hours Per Week | Permanent | some weekends required @ time plus half.

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 per year

The Role

The Assistant Grounds Person supports the maintenance, preparation, and development of all grounds, sports surfaces, gardens, and outdoor areas. The role ensures that all facilities are kept to a high standard of safety, presentation, and usability.

Key Responsibilities:

Grounds Maintenance

  • Assist with the upkeep of all court surfaces, and landscaped areas.
  • Carry out mowing, strimming, line marking, edging, raking, weeding, and general horticultural tasks.
  • Support seasonal tasks such as aeration, scarifying, overseeding, fertilising, and topdressing.

Equipment & Machinery

  • Operate grounds machinery such as mowers, tractors, strimmer’s, blowers, and pedestrian equipment.
  • Carry out basic servicing, cleaning, and maintenance of tools and machinery.
  • Report any defects or safety concerns promptly.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe use of equipment, PPE, and handling of chemicals.
  • Keep work areas clean, tidy, and hazard-free.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records when required (e.g., machinery use, chemical applications).

General Duties

  • Help with waste management, leaf clearing, snow removal, and gritting during winter.
  • Work collaboratively with the grounds team to ensure high standards are consistently met.

Skills & Experience:

Essential

  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of grounds or horticultural tasks.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate grounds machinery safely.
  • Good teamwork, communication skills, and a proactive attitude.

Desirable

  • Experience working in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or horticulture.
  • Knowledge of sports turf management.
  • Qualifications desirable such as
  • o NVQ Level 1–2 in Horticulture/Sports Turf
  • o PA1/PA6 Spraying Certificates
