Job Title: Assistant Bar and Catering Manager

Location: The Northern Lawn Tennis Club, Didsbury, Manchester

Reports To: Bar and Catering Manager

Job Overview:

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Bar and Catering Manager to support the daily operations of our bar and catering services. This role will involve assisting with the management of the bar area, overseeing catering events, helping to lead the team, and ensuring excellent service standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality, a passion for delivering outstanding customer service, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Bar Operations:

  • Assist in managing the daily operations of the bar, including staffing, inventory, and ordering supplies.
  • Ensure drinks are prepared and served in line with the highest quality and presentation standards.
  • Maintain bar cleanliness, ensuring all areas meet hygiene standards and comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding promptly and professionally to customer queries and concerns.
  • Assist with the creation and updating of the bar menu, promotions, and special offerings.

Catering Events:

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of catering services for events, from initial consultation through to event completion.
  • Supervise food and beverage service during events, ensuring exceptional service and guest satisfaction.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their event requirements and ensure these are met with attention to detail.
  • Manage and support staff during events, ensuring they deliver a high standard of service.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen team to ensure food and drinks are served in a timely and professional manner.

Team Supervision and Staff Support:

  • Help recruit, train, and manage bar and catering staff, ensuring they provide excellent service.
  • Assist with rota management and ensure that staffing levels are appropriate for peak times and special events.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to staff, helping to improve their skills and performance.
  • Support the Bar and Catering Manager in carrying out staff appraisals and addressing any performance issues.

Inventory and Budget Management:

  • Assist in managing stock levels for bar supplies, catering equipment, and other materials.
  • Monitor stock to minimise waste and reduce costs, ensuring that budget targets are met.
  • Assist in preparing and adhering to the budget for bar and catering operations.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with UK health and safety regulations, including the Licensing Act 2003, and food safety standards (HACCP).
  • Monitor the bar and catering areas to ensure cleanliness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Implement and maintain safety procedures to ensure the safety of both staff and guests during events.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in the hospitality industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of bar operations, catering services, and food and beverage management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with customers, clients, and staff.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organised, ensuring smooth operations during busy periods.
  • A good understanding of health and safety regulations within the hospitality sector.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required.
  • Basic computer literacy (e.g., using Microsoft Office or similar software).

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in event planning and coordination.
  • Certification in food safety or responsible alcohol service (e.g., Level 2 Food Safety, TIPS, or ServeSafe).
