County Week hots up

And here are the only people who weren’t wilting in the heat last Tuesday …

“All in a day’s work for these players,” said Tennis Director Jonny Kinsella. “They’ve played all over the world in hotter and far more humid conditions than these.”

And the players themselves confirmed it: “It was no problem,” said Avon skipper Kerris Wagstaff. “We are having a great week here – and what a beautiful setting!

“The Northern is a lovely club and the quality of the grass is exceptional. Many thanks to everyone involved!”

Avon has been up against five other county teams  at the Northern this week – Middlesex, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire and Gloucestershire – in the Ladies Group 2 event.

First played in 1895, County Week is one of the longest running tournaments in the tennis calendar with 44 counties across eight groups competing at 13 grass court venues up and down the country.
